Psalm of the Day–Psalm 38

Psa 38:1

A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

Psa 38:2

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

Psa 38:3

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

Psa 38:4

For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Psa 38:5

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

Psa 38:6

I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

Psa 38:7

For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

Psa 38:8

I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

Psa 38:9

Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

Psa 38:10

My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

Psa 38:11

My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

Psa 38:12

They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

Psa 38:13

But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

Psa 38:14

Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

Psa 38:15

For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

Psa 38:16

For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

Psa 38:17

For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

Psa 38:18

For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

Psa 38:19

But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

Psa 38:20

They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

Psa 38:21

Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.

Psa 38:22

Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Psa 24:8

Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

Psa 24:9

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Psalm of the Day–Psalm 23

Psa 23:1

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psa 23:2

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Psa 23:3

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psa 23:4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psa 23:5

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Psa 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Names of an Almighty God

Confession is an important part of maintaining a right relationship with God.

Knowing who God’s many names also is important in knowing who He is, in knowing who you confess to.

In a bible study by Pastor Fryer at Independent Bible Baptist Church, we look through the different names of God, and their importance in how we approach Him.

Read Psalm 91, and notice the names of God used.

Psa 91:1

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psa 91:2

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Psa 91:3

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

Psa 91:4

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Psa 91:5

  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Psa 91:6

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

Psa 91:7

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Psa 91:8

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Psa 91:9

  Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

Psa 91:10

There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Psa 91:11

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Psa 91:12

They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Psa 91:13

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

Psa 91:14

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Psa 91:15

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

Psa 91:16

With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

El Elyon–In Psalm 91:1, the term  Most High reveals this name; strongest of all gods and the possessor of heaven and earth.  He helps win the daily battles in our life and is capable of arranging the most tedious of details in our live.

See Deut. 32:1-12, IISam. 22:4-20, Psalms 7:12, Psalms 47:1-9, Psalms 83:18, Dan. 4:17

El Shaddai–The term almighty reveals that He is THE all sufficient God.

See Genesis 17:1-6, Romans 4:20-21, Phil. 4:19, Psalms 57:1,  and Psalms 121:4

Yahweh–the term Lord in capitalized letters reveals His personal name Jehovah.  The word lord in lower case signifies Adonai–the master, the person in authority.  Yahweh signifies the God who is with you all the time.

See Exodus 3:12-14, Gen. 28:15, Ex. 33:14, Deut. 20:1, Isaiah 43:2, Matt. 18:20, Matt. 28:20.

Elohim–“My God”.  The term refers to the strong convenant keeping God as Creator.

See Neh 9:6, Job 26:7, Psalms 102:25, Heb. 11:3

There are other names of God which will help us focus on who He is and enable us to praise Him:

Jehovah Jireh–the God who provides.

Jehovah Shalom–the God who brings peace.

Jehovah Sabaoth–the God who brings spiritual help

Jehovah Rapha–the God who heals.

God’s names are revealed in our experiences with Him.  When was the last time He revealed Himself to you?
